Bilberry – Bilberries have beneficial plant compounds that help protect your body against damage and disease. They are among the top foods with the highest antioxidant levels. Bilberries contain vitamin C, phenolic acids, and anthocyanosides.  The anthocanosides in Bilberry protect the retina and improve blood circulation to the eye which improves vision.

Macular degeneration: Bilberries may help , which is a loss of vision due to aging and help improve eye function for people with normal-tension glaucoma. Bilberries may help protect against cataracts, which are a clouding of the lens of the eye and they help reduce eye fatigue, which can cause eye pain, headaches, and blurred vision. Bilberries help with dry eyes .

Eyebright – Both an antihistamine, astringent and anti-inflammatory. When used as an internal medicine it is an excellent treatment of catarrh, hay fever, chronic sneezing and inflammation in the nasal mucosa.

Marigold – Marigold extract may help prevent cataracts and macular degeneration in older people. Compounds in marigolds, such as lutein and zeaxanthin, can help protect eye cells from damage caused by blue light from digital devices. Marigolds are rich in carotenoids, which are fat-soluble phytonutrients with antioxidant properties. The macula of the eye requires a high concentration of lutein and zeaxanthin, which marigolds provide. In studies taking supplements of lutein and meso-zeaxanthin improved contrast sensitivity in the eyes.

Goldenseal – kills bacteria and is sometimes used to treat eye infections, diarrhea, urinary tract infections, canker sores, and vaginitis. It is also used to treat colds, hay fever, digestive problems, and other health conditions. As an eyewash for eye inflammation and eye infections called conjunctivitis, or “pink eye.” Goldenseal contains the chemical berberine, which might have effects against bacteria and fungi. For example, it can prevent the bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli) from binding to urinary tract walls. Berberine also has properties that can lower blood pressure and improve irregular heartbeats. In addition, early research suggests that berberine can lower blood sugar and “bad” low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol.

Ginkgo Biloba – helps prevent the worsening of macular degeneration, a leading cause of blindness in the United States. It is beneficial for treating low-tension glaucoma, a type of glaucoma that occurs when the eye is damaged even though the internal pressure is normal. Helps to improve blood flow to the eye and optic nerve.  Ginkgo biloba may help improve color vision in patients with diabetic retinopathy. The flavonoids in ginkgo may help reduce or stop problems with the retina.

Turmeric – is great for treating eye diseases. The active ingredient, curcumin, may help treat a number of eye diseases, including:

Retinitis pigmentosa: Curcumin may prevent the buildup of a damaging protein that can kill eye rod cells.

Glaucoma: Eye drops containing curcumin may help reduce the loss of retinal cells, which is an early sign of glaucoma.

Uveitis: Curcumin may be as effective as steroids in treating uveitis, an inflammatory eye disease, without the side effects.

Treating dry eyes: Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties may help treat dry eye symptoms.

Reducing blood pressure: Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties may help lower blood pressure, which can stress the eyes.
